Surroundings

What is it that makes a place what it is?
What defines it and makes it different from any other, specific to physical location and moment in time?
Made from the perspective of standing within the landscapes of rural Alberta, Surroundings explores the visual and tactile experience of the outdoors through the use of print and textile mediums. This series aims to encapsulate the ways that landscapes and the environments that surround us are captured in memories. The core elements and impressions remain while other details fall away.
While based on specific places, these works engage more with the experiences of inhabiting such landscapes; embodying them through material explorations of colour, form, and texture. This all becomes part of reflecting on the perception of singular moments within the passing of time as seen through the different seasons.
