Distance

A series of prints on the measurement of distance, the passage of time, growth, physical separation, and advancement. A visual staircase that centers on the relationship between a mother and child. While influenced by my own experiences, this work was also influenced by others' stories as the children of immigrants or 1st generation Canadians.

From Simon Armitage’s Book of Matches, is the feeling of growing up, moving away, and moving on from your childhood while still needing the foundations set by your parents, and still being connected to your roots. The feeling of giving, caring, and creating better opportunities for your children, sacrificing for them while celebrating their movement upwards. In this, there is a reflection on the positives and negatives of what we carry with us from our parents, and what we pass on to the next generation.
