Notions of Care

There are notions of care within the act of sewing. Expressions of love and consideration can be shown through re-stitching buttons, hemming cuffs, and patching rips and tears. Care for cloth items and garments is also care for the user and wearer. Repairing and maintaining cloth items is also a show of accepting their flaws and imperfections. There is acceptance and comfort in putting careful work into something that will be worn and carried by someone dear to you. Notions of Care is a 4-piece artist book relating the process and labor of stitching to the body, through the mending of garments, the tactile experience of hand sewing, and performing acts of service to others as well as self-care. Thoughts on creating comfort and security through stitching and mending are used to form sewing notions; the motivations for meticulous work become the necessary tools, replicated in paper and thread.
